All gas appliances must be installed by a registered GAS SAFE engineer. Gas appliances must also be fitted in accordance to the manufacturers' instructions to ensure they meet Gas Safe regulations. It is of utmost importance, that aspects such as the chimney or flue system, ventilation, gas pipes and gas pressure are given serious consideration. Appliances should be serviced and checked on an annual basis to ensure they are in safe working order. By using a qualified person, you can rest assured that your gas fire is installed correctly and will operate safely and reliably. All GAS SAFE Engineers are regularly audited to ensure they are working in line with the current regulations – ask to see the engineer’s Gas Safe ID card.
Our engineers can attend your property and thoroughly investigate the issue to diagnose the fault with your boiler. We can resolve issues such as gas leaks, water leaks, no hot water, no heating or even enquiries to replace an old boiler.
As per all gas appliances, gas boilers do need to be maintained correctly. Here are four main reasons you should service your boiler at least once every 12 months:
A faulty boiler can be extremely dangerous. According to government statistics, each year in the UK, around 4,000 people go to A&E with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to leaking boilers, 200 people are hospitalised and on average, 50 adults and children die. A Gas Safe qualified boiler engineer will check for and fix any leaks or weak points during a service.
REDUCE YOUR FUEL BILLS
A fully qualified boiler engineer will make sure your boiler is running as efficiently as possible and isn’t squandering energy – this will save you money on your bills, as well as cutting your home or business’ carbon footprint.
SAVE MONEY ON BOILER REPAIRS
If you periodically make sure your boiler is working correctly, you can save money on future repairs. A fully qualified boiler engineer can fix any minor issues that if left unrepaired may cause significant malfunctions leading to further costs.
ENSURE YOUR INSURANCE IS VALID
Most boiler warranties and some home and business insurance policies require that you ensure your boiler is safe to use. An annual boiler service will meet most insurance policy requirements, though it’s best to check with your insurance provider just to be sure.
Gas Fire Install and Services
Gas fires are available in various types and designs. The majority of gas fires are open flue appliances although balanced flue and flueless options are also available. Once we know what type of flue a fire has, we can then categorise it by describing it further eg. It is a radiant heater, decorative fuel effect, live fuel effect, hole in the wall or inset. An incorrectly installed gas fire can have devastating results. All gas appliances must be installed by a competent Gas Safe Engineer.
Some of the important checks in relation to the install and maintenance of a gas fire are:
Gas Pressure – a common cause of a gas fire shutting down while it is operating is that the gas pressure is not correct. This problem can be more noticeable when switching on other gas appliances within the property such as boilers etc.
Chimney Draw Is Too Strong – gas fire keeps switching itself off.
Chimney Draw Is Too Weak – this can result in fumes spilling back into the room which is VERY dangerous.
No ventilation or not enough in the room - It is imperative that gas fires have the required minimum amount of ventilation for the safe and continuous operation. None or too little ventilation, may lead to incomplete combustion which can have devastating results.
No Power – a remote control fire needs a power source. It can be powered by mains or batteries
Incorrect Installation – all gas fires are supplied with an installation manual. This shows how to fit the fire in line with the manufacturer’s instructions and the CE approval to ensure it is safe. Ensure you have a copy of the installation manual before starting to install a fire. The warranty will be invalid if the fire has been wrongly installed.
We recommend that all gas fires are serviced every 12 months, regardless of how often it is used. There are number of issues which can effect a gas appliance functioning correctly, reliably and safely. Blockages in the gas pipes, gas leaks, chimney blockages, gas pressure drops etc can all be identified and rectified during a service.
Gas Hob and Cooker Installs
As per all gas appliances, gas cookers and hobs must also be fitted by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer. There is more to a safe install than just connecting an appliance to a gas supply. Clearances, ventilation, type of pipe work, distances from combustible materials and other factors must be considered. Failing to do so may not just invalidate the appliance warranty, but may also have fatal consequences.
Gas Leaks and Repairs
Gas appliances and pipe work should be checked on an annual basis to ensure safe operation and for integrity to confirm there are no leaks. On some occasions a Gas Safe Engineer may be required to check a property for leaks or to ensure appliances are safe prior to auctioning a “Purge and Relight”. Should you require an engineer to check appliances prior to reinstating a gas supply, or to source a gas leak, we are qualified to do so.
